Microplastics, tiny plastic particles less than 5mm in size, have become pervasive in our environment, particularly in water sources. These particles can enter the human body through the consumption of contaminated water, seafood, and other food items, posing significant health risks.
MDLifespan Medical Assistant Maria Robles recently spoke with Univision’s Noticia Chicago about the detrimental effects of microplastics on health and well-being. Due to ongoing contamination in Lake Michigan and other Illinois water systems, both Chicago and surrounding areas are at significant risk.
State officials and the EPA recommend using recyclable products to mitigate this issue. Additionally, daily detox practices and the benefits of Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE) are encouraged to combat the health risks posed by microplastics.
